Buyer beware. The old adage of ‘you get what you pay for’ is alive and well today and applies to your gutter contractor! Fly by night contractors (and other non-reputable contractors) are never a good choice and tend to all make the same mistakes when installing seamless gutters. We have had to fix, and in many cases, replace new gutters that were installed by another company that had the best price.
So, if you have new gutters and have leaking or other issues already, it is likely your contractor made one or more of the following mistakes:
* Failing to install gutter under drip edge of roof
-This can result in water leaking behind the gutter and potentially causing wood
rot on your home!
* Not sloping gutters towards the downspouts
-This can cause water retention in the gutter and can lead to issues such as a
falling gutter and water damage to your home. (Note the picture above!)
* Using low quality sealant
-All sealant is not created equal. Contractors should use an appropriate gutter
sealant for the climate where the gutters are being installed. If not, the gutters
will develop leaks early on.
At Martin’s, we do our best to take care of customers that have been wronged or scammed by other companies and always strive to do our best work the first time!
